Mother's Day

Hey it's still May so this post isn't tooooo late!  John bought me some lovely tulips that were such a bright sunny yellow. I loved looking at them with the purple wisteria in the background.

We went to OMSI with John for the morning.

John loved it! He was like a big kid. I loved watching him have so much fun with the exhibits and showing the girls lots of cool new things. The girls liked showing Daddy their favorite places in the museum.

When the wisteria started to die, it looked like purple snow.

A few mornings after Mother's Day, my neighbor rang the doorbell. She had a bouquet of roses from her garden to give to me for Mother's Day. So sweet!

While John's grandma and his mom and dad were out of town visiting family in Wisconsin, Grandma's (the girls call her Nanny) house got broken into. The police had a hard time reaching anyone so I was the first person they were able to get ahold of. Let me tell you, getting a call with a Dallas number on it saying, "this is the police" gives you a mini-heart attack. We were able to track down my brother-in-law who works close to Grandma's house and he met the police over there to go over details and get someone to board up her back door. The girls heard me talking about all this so, I had to explain what happened. Maddie drew this picture of the bad guys in jail to send to Nanny.

A bit of this and that

Going back a couple of weeks again, this is Izzie and Maddie in their new leotards. The gym doesn't require gymnastics leotards for this age and ballet ones are more ruffle-y. So ruffles it is!

Warming up and about to do the splits.

 And working on bridges.

Perfect day for an art project!

Maddie and Izzie starting on their mural.

It was a sort of vinyl paper so the water color ended up beading up on it, but the girls didn't mind.

 Izzie scrambling her eggs.

 Maddie's turn.

Front yard with the wisteria in bloom.

Showed the girls a daisy chain with clover. Here's Maddie wearing hers as a crown.

I popped popcorn for the girls' snack today. Then spontaneously decided to turn it into a lesson. Sorry for the wiggly camera!

Proud Momma

So I tucked the girls into bed about half an hour ago, went in the kitchen to do some cleaning and then just settled in front of my computer to start browsing/lesson planning etc, when all of a sudden two very exuberant girls come running in. Maddie had a story she wrote and she wanted to share it with me. So she read me the story she made up and wrote all by herself. At age 5.
 The Big Dog
The big dog sat on a rug. The big dog got the rug muddy. The end. By: Maddie

This was written on a piece of paper about 3" by 4". I asked her if I could keep it but she said no, she wanted to keep it on her bedside table so she could read it over and over. Then on the way back to her room she stopped in to show daddy and she told him she was so proud of herself she felt like she could "BURST RIGHT OPEN!"
And that makes for a very proud Momma.

Babysitter vs Date

Last night John and I went on our first date in a long time and first one here in Vancouver. It was the girls' first time for a babysitter outside of family too.

Izzie summed it up: Having a babysitter is more fun than a date. We played cards, read a book, laughed a lot and had fun! You and Daddy just went to a boring restaurant and had to sit still.

Sandy Watering Hole in Washougal, Washington

We met some friends at the Sandy Watering Hole in Washougal, Washington. It's a pretty neat spot, about 25 minutes east of our house. It's more rocky than "sandy" but that's okay. Apparently it's a popular swimming spot in the summer and you know we'll be back when it's warm enough to swim. (That is if it ever get's warm enough for me....)

Maddie throwing rocks. We were here for over an hour and all the kids threw rocks almost the entire time. When it was time to go, Maddie starts crying. "I didn't get to throw enough rocks!" she said.

After rock throwing we went to a restaurant called Puffin Cafe. This is William and Emily with James peeking over in the back. The restaurant was fun because it was floating out in the water and we had to walk down a long wobbly dock to get to it.

Mostly random going ons

While unpacking, I came across my old Patch Jacket. Official Girl Scout Badges go on your sash or vest, but it is fun to collect Patches from different camps, touristy places and more. The pocket is stuffed full of patches I never got around to sewing on, but it also looks like I was running out of room. Too bad I don't remember where most of these came from!!

Panda was (is?) my camp name. My mom embroidered it on the back shoulder for me.

The wisteria vine was so pretty when it bloomed, but I had a horrible time getting a good picture of it. I figured quantity would make up for quality.

One day it was so amazingly beautiful that the girls and I took a blanket and a stack of books outside to read. This is laying in the backyard looking up.

Reading soon turned into mud making.

I stayed laying on the blanket watching the girls. That's our shed.

We love watching the squirrels. But don't let the feeders get empty. One day one of the squirrels somehow managed to get it down and carry it across the yard!

Storytime craft. They decorated postcards that the library sent them in the mail. The stories were all about mail. Pretty cool!
