The girls grandpa, Tom Dittlinger, retires from Rockwell Automation after a long, satisfying career today. It's a retirement that he's been talking about and putting off for almost as long as I've known him! But now, he's ready. He's got four grandchildren and I think he's ready to enjoy having the time to spend with them. I know there are also lots of plans of travel with Grandma too!

Cue Ball

Well... he finally did it... John's a baldy now!

Dolly will make it better

The girls don't feel so great after their shots yesterday. Maddie is running a slight fever at 99.4. Izzie is hugging dolly to make it feel better.

Head circumference: 15 3/4"

Weight: 10lbs 12oz

Head circumference: 15 1/2"

They did very good at the doctors today. Maddie actually cried louder than Izzie at the shots. Izzie giggled for the doctor when she told her that she was pretty. This evening they weren't feeling well and we cuddled with them for a long time. Now they are upstairs sleeping. Hopefully they will sleep through the night like they have been doing.

Day at Grandma's House

Today we spent the day at Grandma's house waiting for John to get home from England. The girls did great, they even took a nap in the back room. I'm glad to see them napping in different locations and that they don't have to be in their own room to sleep. It makes life more flexible! Julie came over with Sabrina later in the afternoon. When we had all three girls together we decided we needed a name for all three. Like Mazzie BooBear is Izzie and Maddie's combined name. So we came up with Mazzina. Maddie-Izzie-Sabrina. It works for birth order too! I guess you kinda had to been there... but we thought it was funny and cute! Here's some pictures from the day.

A study of hands

Izzie finding her hands... apparently they taste good too!

This week has been about the discovery of hands. Both Maddie and Izzie have found their hands this week. They like to hold them up and look at their fingers move. They like watching each others hands too. When I wiggle my fingers at them, they love to study the movement. The girls are fascinated with the ABC's, because while I sing them, I also do them in sign language. They've also started to hold hands while I'm nursing them. It is so precious.

Ramblings of a mom

Last night we had a HUGE storm. One clap of thunder even shook the whole house. It was a bit scary being here by myself with the girls. Mostly it was a big lightening show though.

This morning was hot and muggy due to the storms last night. The girls and I had a peaceful morning. When I was feeding them this morning, Izzie reached over and held Maddie's hand. It was SO cute! I don't think she did it consciously, but she was looking at Maddie when she did it. I decided to take them to Target. I didn't really need to get anything, but I just thought it would be a fun field trip and it was too muggy for a walk around the neighborhood. They did really great at Target. I bought some new shorts, but since I had the girls I didn't want to try them on at the store. Which stinks because I of course bought the wrong size so now I've got to return them. It would have been easier in the long run to try them on in the store. Oh well. When we got home, I didn't think the girls would be ready to eat for at least another hour. They told me otherwise. They both started crying so loud! I fed them and they were still crying. They were both tired, but too worked up to go to sleep. I swaddled them up and gave them a paci and they fell asleep almost immediately.

I had two cavities filled yesterday. And today my mouth is sore. I have TMJ and holding my mouth open that long always makes it hurt. Not to mention my back is still hurting really bad. I hurt it two weekends ago, and it's still hurting. I've been taking aleve, using icy hot and a back brace.

The girls were in cute little outfits today, but they both spit up on them before I got a picture. So I'll try again next time I put them in them. I bought them some little khaki shorts today at Target. They look so adorable! I'm going to put them in the shorts after naptime.

Daddy, we miss you!

and... Momma REALLY misses you!!!

Hello from the UK!

Ok, so Amanda said that it would be fun if I made a post from the UK, so here it is! I'm over here for a week for the annual Applications Conference for CSR. This is I think my 6th trip over here, and this is the first time I have been over where it isn't winter. In fact, its quite nice... about 45 degrees in the mornings, warming up to around 65 or so in the afternoons. The nice weather makes walking to and from the conference (around a mile from the hotel) much more pleasant than I expected. Of course, that is if it doesn't rain!

Yesterday I took the camera and took about 80 pictures along the walk to the college where the conference is taking place. If you didn't know, Cambridge is a university town, and there are tons of different colleges around.

The first picture is King's College, and the second is of the river. The hotel is right next to the river, so I can get some really nice views. I'd upload more pictures, but they are pretty big and the bandwidth isn't so great from the hotel!

I'm having fun, but I miss all 3 of my girls. Only 4 more days and I get to see them again!

Mom's night out

Yay! Tonight is Mom's Night Out at my twin group. A bunch of us are meeting at PF Changs for dinner. I won't know anyone (I don't think) but it's a great way to meet new moms and just socialize. This is the first one I'm attending since the girls were born. I went to one back when I first found out I was having twins and I had a good time.

The girls are doing great today. They are eating more often during the day. Instead of going three hours they are going more like two and half. They still go three sometimes. But I'm not complaining. They are sleeping so long during the night, I think they are making up for missed meals during the day! They are down for a nap right now.

We all miss John... hope he's getting a lot of work done in England!

Another playdate

Today I took the girls over to meet their friends Zella and Lila. They were born 4 days after my girls on Christmas Eve. I had a fun time visiting with their mom Ashley. We met at a PAMOM meeting back when we were pregnant. When we found out our due dates weren't too far off, we thought it was neat. Then the girls were born only 4 days apart. Two sets of identical girls.

This is Lila and Zella's easter picture. I forgot to take pictures today! I'll have to make sure that the next time we go visit, I get lots of pics.

Four months old

The girls are four months old today. I dressed them in these cute frilly dresses for their 4 month picture. The dresses came with matching bonnets, but the girls would have none of that. The bonnets were a bust. John said he'd cry too if he had to have that on his head! I didn't blame them either.

At four months old the girls are now reaching out for toys. They are entertaining themselves for 20-30 minutes at a time. They are sleeping on average 9 hours a night. Although last night they slept for 10 hours 45 min! They are making baby noises. They make the "oh, ah, aye, gar and goo" sounds. They are just starting a "da" sound. Their necks are really strong and they are working on strengthening their torsos.

Beautiful day

Today is a gorgeous day outside. It is bright and sunny without a cloud in the sky. It's supposed to get up to 82 degrees. The girls and I went on a long walk around the neighborhood earlier. It was a perfect day for it too, because it's Garage Sale day in our neighborhood so there were a lot of people out and about. Everyone wanted to see the girls and tell me how cute they are. As a mom, I of course, know how cute my girls are, but I like hearing from other people too. Even though of course that is what they are going to say no matter what. I got to meet some new neighbors. I also found out that there is going to be ANOTHER set of twins on my street!! The lady is in her second trimester. I didn't meet the lady that is pregnant, but met her next door neighbor. I'm beginning to wonder what is in the water.

My neighbor Stephanie gave me some of her daughter, Gracie's, clothes that she was going to take to Goodwill. They are mostly winter outfits so hopefully the girls will fit in them next winter.

Daddy comes home

Yay! John comes home for a day and half before he flies to Cambridge, England for a week. I know I'm sure ready for him to be home, even if it is for a short time. The girls have been excellent today. Although, I was pretty tired. We went shopping at a few consignment stores to look around, but didn't buy anything. I put them down for a nap at 2:30 and then jumped in bed myself. I was so tired I was about to fall over! I slept for 20 min, and feel very refreshed now. Any longer, I would have been groggy. They were still sleeping so I took a bath with the baby monitor. I even had a chance to do some housework. Now, it's 5:30 and I'm going to go wake them up. I don't want them to sleep too long or they won't sleep tonight. But it sure is nice when they go down for a nap and stay down! It makes playtime that much more enjoyable because they aren't cranky.

Visiting cousins

The girls and I went to visit their cousins Sammy and Sabrina. We actually went to Grandma's house this morning and from there drove over to Julie's. I didn't get to hold Sabrina because she slept the whole time I was there. But babies do tend to do that! The girls were pretty fussy today. Izzie just started crying at the least little thing. Maddie wasn't as bad, but she wasn't her usual cheery self either.

Time for two naps

Nana, Izzie and Maddie

Rhonda holding Maddie.

The girls are awake a lot more this last week. And when they are awake they are much more active. They are actually playing and wiggling and squirming and laughing! It's cute, but I think it's making them even more tired. I just fed them their "lunch" and they were happy for about 15-20 min afterwards playing. Then they both had a meltdown. I know they were tired, but they didn't want to sleep. So I swaddled them and put them down in the crib. They quieted right down. I usually don't put them down this early, but they needed it. I'll probably have two naps for them today. They slept 10 hours again last night. They need all this sleep since they are playing more and more.

This evening Rhonda, Mom and Chris came over for hamburgers on the grill. Rhonda then stayed to help me bathe the girls and get them ready for bed. We had a fun evening.

On our own

John leaves today for Chicago. He'll be gone until Friday evening, but then he leaves again on Sunday to Cambridge, England for another week. So, the girls and I, we are on our own. I'm sure I'll have plenty of help though.

Over the weekend at Mema's house, the girls both started playing more. They are actually playing with their toys now. Lisa bought them an elephant and a lion that rattle really great. The girls LOVE hitting them and hearing the rattle. Jamie gave me Nicholas' old floor mat. It has a mirror that hangs down. Both Izzie and Maddie love mirrors. Right now, Izzie is playing on the mat and Maddie is still sleeping. Which is good since she's been fighting nap time lately.

I finally got to meet the Cearley Twins, Nick and Max. They live around the corner from me. They are about a month old. Stephanie and I took all the twins out on a walk. I went in my double jeep stroller, but her guys are still small enough to fit in a single stroller!

Here's Maddie, Izzie Nick and Max! (Nick and Max are BOTH in the single stroller!)

Back home

We got back home this afternoon right at 3:00. The girls made it all the way from Mema's house to Dallas without crying. They slept the whole way. It was a very pleasant drive, especially with all the wildflowers that are in bloom right now. I saw a ton of the little yellow flowers and Indian Paintbrushes. There were bluebonnets, but not as plentiful as the little yellow ones.
This morning I woke up to the smell of my favorite breakfast in the whole world. Mema's French Toast. It is SO yummy. I fed the girls and ran into the kitchen for my plate! My cousin Lisa came over this morning to see the girls. She stayed and visited for a little while. Then it was pretty much time to feed the girls and hit the road.

We've been taking it easy this afternoon. I took a soaky bath and John is playing on the computer. The girls have been playing or cuddling with one of us. I'm trying to sort through all the photos I took this weekend. I took about 150! My girls are just that photogenic, what can I say? Actually I got some great pics of Mema and Pepaw, Lisa, Darrin & Rebecca, Grandma Bettie and Grandpa Jimmy and a ton of Ryan.

I just noticed... Maddie and Izzie are 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days old today!

Happy birthday Rhonda!

My little big sister is turning 24 today! I can't believe it, partly because I still think of MYSELF as 24. But I'm 28 now. Happy Birthday Rhonda!

We had fun at Jamie's house last night. Her son, Nicholas, is growing so fast! He's 6 months old and already crawling around. The girls enjoyed going to his house to play with all of his toys. Jamie was sweet and gave us his old play mat. The girls really liked it. I was wearing Maddie in the Moby wrap and had to eat with a paper towel over her head. Jamie made us Tacos and I didn't want to drop taco meat on her head. We took a really cute picture of Jamie, Me, Maddie, Izzie and Nicholas.

When we got back to Mema's house, Unka D and Auntie R came over for a few minutes to see the girls. Darrin wasn't too impressed when Izzie had a blowout in her diaper!

The girls slept great again last night. This morning they've been really happy. They took their mid-morning nap in their carseats. Well, Mema has beans and cornbread ready for lunch, so I'm off to eat!

First vacation

Well we got to Mema's house around 7:30pm last night. The drive wasn't too bad. We had to stop about an hour away from Mema's house to feed the girls. That was interesting. It was my first time to try and feed them out in public. We pulled up to this cafe in Kosse, Texas. I tried feeding the girls one at a time in the car with a blanket pulled over us. I know a lot of mommies do it all the time, but we haven't had too much practice. Somehow, the girls ended up getting milk in their mouths and a full tummy.

We got to Mema's house and Mema was on the phone with her sister Mary. I hear, "They are here! They are here!" and she hangs up the phone and gets real excited. We couldn't get the girls out of their carseats fast enough. Pepaw took Maddie and Mema took Izzie. We sat and visited in the living room until they wanted to eat again around 9. Mema had to hold both girls at once.

They slept almost 9 hours again! They slept great in their tent, but I slept very lightly. I woke up at every noise! So today, I'm tired. Their cousin Ryan came over today at around 10 am. He was SO excited to see the girls. He loved how small their hands and feet were, and he kept comparing them to his hands and feet. He even helped me change Maddie's diaper.

Here's Izzie and Maddie with their cousin Ryan.

I went bug hunting with Ryan while the girls were sleeping. We found some spider eggs, two small snails, a big snail and a bunch of doodle bugs. He showed me his 4-wheeler and even let me ride it. We helped Pepaw in his garden. (Actually Ryan helped and I took pictures.)

Well the girls are up and demanding their mid-afternoon meal. More excitement to follow, I'm sure.

Going to Mema's house

We need "Going to Grandma's" luggage for the girls! I remember when I was little I had this little red suitcase that said "Going to Grandma's" on it. This is our first trip out of town with the girls. I'm excited. John says not to worry, because I'm bringing the whole house with us. It's a good thing we only have a car and not the mini-van, or he might not be too far off. As it is, I can't pack EVERYTHING! I'm sure we will be just fine though. The girls get to try out their new tent. Although I suspect they may end up in our bed. Not sure how well that will work since Mema has a full size in her guest room and we are used to a king.

Their cousin (second) Ryan is excited to see them. He's 4.5 years old (I think?) and he's excited to see the twins. Although the more he's thought about it, the more jealous he's gotten and has decided to put "rules" down. He knows babies get their diapers changed a lot, so he's set up some guidelines. I'm not allowed to change their diapers in HIS space at Mema's house. So, I think that means I may be allowed to change them in the laundry room. (I think that's all that's left.) It should be amusing. Maybe he'll fall in love with them and allow me to change them in the guest room after all.

John's Mom is coming over this morning to see the girls and to pick up Ripley. So Ripley gets to go to Grandma's house too. He LOVES spending time with his "Grandma." Otherwise today, I'm just continuing to "pack up the house." The girls are still sleeping, giving me some quiet time this morning. I already packed up my stuff and I'm gathering up their stuff.

Last night

Last night I went to my PAMOM meeting. I was really excited to meet another twin mom who is breastfeeding her babies. I didn't get a chance to talk to her for very long, but I got her name and email address. Her babies are 3 months ahead of mine, so maybe she's figured out some things I don't know about yet.

While I was gone, John apparently had a trying time. The girls were very fussy for him. I think they missed their Momma, even though I was only gone for 4 hours. They respond GREAT to John when I'm home. Sometimes, if I can't calm Izzie down, I hand her to John and she immediately gets quite. She's definitely a daddy's girl! But last night, John said she was really gassy and just fussy. Maddie was too. To top it off, Izzie refused the bottle. She did that for my mom last time she watched the girls too. I'm afraid that now she's gotten better at breastfeeding, she doesn't want bottles anymore. It's not that big a deal. They were only getting a bottle of pumped breastmilk about 2-3 times a month. It just means I can't be away from them at meal times. We are going to try some different brands of bottles first, but I don't want to make a big deal out of it. I'm not too concerned. They should be going longer between feeding soon anyway.

Completely off topic- My new favorite tv show is Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsey. Beware though, after watching several episodes you may never want to eat out again! There are two versions of the show, one is American and one is British on the BBC. I watched the whole first season on a new TV watching website.

Happy dance

I've been pretty productive this morning. The girls woke me up at 7:30. I had plenty of sleep, but still wanted more! But we all got up and the girls had breakfast in bed. I pulled my nursing pillow over to the bed and fed them there. I'm not sure if it was more comfortable or not. It was just different. We had a bit of a rain storm after breakfast. I got some laundry done while the girls took their after breakfast nap. I did a bit of cooking too. Then Maddie, Izzie and I played in the toy room. Maddie was doing great at reaching out for the toys. I had to take some video. Izzie was in one of her favorite places of all times. She loves her swing. Now, Izzie is asleep again and Maddie is helping me type. She is in the bjorn facing out. We just started that a few days ago.

I'm excited, I have my PAMOM meeting tonight. I really enjoy going to the meetings and meeting new moms. I can't wait until the girls are a bit older and can go on some of the field trips that PAMOM plans. In the meantime I go, to meet new people and to get out of the house for awhile.

Just heard from Jackie, Julie should get to come home from the hospital this afternoon. She just needs to be cleared by doctor Watkins. I'm sure she's anxious to get home!

The best mornings ever

The last few mornings have been so awesome. I'm talking about those first 15 minutes after you open your eyes and wake up. The girls wake me up with a few cooing noises. I look over in their co-sleeper and they look back at me and smile. That's enough to melt a Momma's heart. I reach over and unwrap my little bundles. (We are still swaddling at night and nap.) The girls then stretch and yawn. I sing them a good morning song and they smile back at me. This is such a departure from the way it used to be. I used to wake up to screams of "I'm hungry!" Now they like to stretch, sing with me and play wiggle for about 15 minutes before they want to eat. It is such a pleasant way to wake up.

I'm obsessed with baby feet! How CUTE!

Lil' Izzie... how can that be comfortable??

D&D Day @ the D's

Today is another Dungeons and Dragon Day at the Dittlinger's! I spent the morning touching up the baby announcement for Sabrina and doing some work for the community newsletter while the girls were sleeping. Actually we slept in pretty late, so the morning just poofed away. The guys showed up at noon. The girls and I went upstairs for a bit, but they got sleepy again, so I brought them downstairs. Maddie is napping in the downstairs crib and I'm wearing Izzie in the baby bjorn. I've got a newsletter meeting later this afternoon.

Later... A sad day for the Woodbridge Community Newsletter. We are so close to closing down. Our neighborhood has 2100 homes approximately, but we can't seem to drum up interest in the newsletter. In the past few issues we've squeaked by with three core members and a few extra people that submit articles. Today the meeting got canceled because we had no one show up. We are going to try and reschedule, but 3 people can't keep a paper running for 2100. We need fresh ideas and new articles! I'm so frustrated. I really enjoy designing it, but without articles, there isn't anything to design!

Second visit

We got to visit Julie and Sabrina in the hospital again today. She is so cute!! She has so much hair that Julie is going to be able to put bows in it. She's got some mad sucking skills too. She can hold on to her pacifer like no one's business. Also, while I was there I got to feed her a bottle. She took down 37 ml on her second day! My girls were taking 6 ml their second day (of course they were 5 weeks early...) She's precious. And the three girls together were precious.
